How to Fold Cloth Diapers

Traditional Prefolds, Better Fit Prefolds and Flat Diapers are simple to use, inexpensive, and are easy to wash and dry.  It's easy to learn a few easy folds to put the diapers' absorbency where your baby needs it.

A prefold diaper is basically flat diapers that are layered together and sewn together with extra layers in the middle for absorbency.  Before there were prefolds, there were large squares of a single layer of fabric - (flat diapers) that were being folded into multiple layers.   When mothers realized that they were repeatedly folding the diapers into the same configuration every time, they decided to simplify by sewing up the seams and adding extra absorbency down the center, thereby creating a prefolded diaper.  Better Fit prefolds are a shorter version of the traditional prefolds.  This size works better in pocket diapers and with some diaper covers.
